During our first Sexual Health After Cancer Workshop at Rehab Specialists Physical Therapy Treatment Center, Jenni Rai and I gathered with an intimate group of women to talk about sexuality, sex after cancer treatment, and hold space while exploring sexual health from a mind-body approach.

One common concern in my practice is healthy sexuality after cancer for survivors and their partners. Regular massage and genital stimulation help alleviate symptoms of vaginal dryness and sensitivity.

In cooperation with the Melbourne Royal Women’s Hospital, the University of Melbourne carried out a research study by using a silicone-based formula from pjur. All female participants of the trial were given a pjur silicone-based formula to use during the treatment. They found that women who take medications or are undergoing treatments for any type of medical condition can experience a change in the vaginal walls which can lead to pain during intercourse or pain in everyday life.
