Skincare vs Vulvovaginal Care: Why Your Vulva and Vagina Deserve the Same Glow-Up

When it comes to skincare, we have entire routines that include serums, toners, acids, and creams. We obsess over hydration, texture, and an elusive “glass skin” finish. We pamper our faces daily because we want them healthy, radiant, and ready to meet the world. But just because our vulvas and vaginas aren’t front and center doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the same attention. If anything, they deserve more, because vulvovaginal health is deeply tied to our comfort, vitality, and pleasure.

The Skincare Lineup

On my bathroom counter, I keep the essentials: hyaluronic acid for hydration, glycolic acid for texture, serums to protect, moisturizers to restore, and a red light therapy device to support circulation. I do this because it helps my skin stay resilient and healthy.

The Vulvovaginal Lineup

Right beside it, I keep my vulvovaginal products. Moisturizers for vulvar tissue, vaginal suppositories to support balance, hormonal creams when my body needs them, arousal gels and lubricants for ease and comfort, and nourishing oils like coconut, almond, and castor for massage. I also use red light therapy here because the tissue benefits from circulation and renewal, just like my skin does. A little red light never hurt any vulva. 😁

A big part of this care for me includes genital massage. Using oils to gently massage the vulva enhances blood flow, supports healthy tissue, and helps release tension that builds up due to inflammation or stress. It is grounding, nourishing, and connects me back to this part of my body in a mindful way.

During perimenopause, I noticed changes in my labia. They softened and deflated, and the skin became more sensitive. Living with endometriosis also means that inflammation can cause discomfort. Genital massage combined with moisturizers, creams, and soothing products, especially those with THC and CBD, has helped reduce sensitivity and restore comfort. These practices remind me that vulvovaginal care is as important as skincare.

Why This Matters

We have normalized skincare as self-care. We post about it, we celebrate it, we invest in it. Vulvovaginal care still stays hidden, even though it supports daily comfort, long-term health, and pleasure. These tissues thrive with consistent care, just like the skin on your face.

The Takeaway

Your face requires daily care because it is the first thing people see. Your vulva and vagina deserve daily care because they support how you live and connect with the world. Both are part of wellness. Both are acts of self-love. Both deserve a glow-up.
